We have two thrust research areas as the lab name implies: (1) innovative applications of lasers and (2) multiphysics systems. A laser is an extremely high-density, high-quality, high-precision optical energy with many unique opportunities that no other energy sources can offer. Our primary research interest is in the development of novel laser-based technologies that have a potential to be commercialized. Our second interest is in multiphysics systems, where multiple physical phenomena of different nature appear in a coupled manner. In fact, most engineering problems are multiphysics in nature. We are especially interested in numerical analyses of plasmas, multiphase flow problems, and electrodynamics.
